It's an exciting time to be a sensory OT! Awareness of sensory processing has grown. New diagnostic criteria for many conditions and much research have advanced our field. Renowned neuroscientists like Dr. Stephen Porges and Dr. Bruce Perry acknowledge the role that sensory plays in foundations of human function at any age. There are also more options for advanced study & certification in sensory integration and treatment, than ever before.
BUT...
Sensory remains confusing, overwhelming and intimidating much of the time, even when you have years of experience! Every client is different with unique profiles. Brain science is a massive field. Certification can be expensive and time consuming. There are differing frameworks for the treatment of SI challenges and, HECK! Our profession struggles to agree on terminology! Finally, few (if any) advanced training programs provide ongoing support once you finish. So how do we get better at what we do?! If you own a group clinic, how do you help your staff get better at what you want THEM to do?!
I know all too well:
It means a lot of time, a lot of stress and huge insecurity, and that's just the clinical. Managing a private practice brings in a whole different set of challenges that we are not trained as therapists to tackle. What could it look like if you have a framework to follow and support to implement that framework? (read about my "6 Pillars of and Effective Sensory-based OT Practice")
If you are a sensory OT who values best practice and evidence-informed practice, with at least 5 years of clinical experience and you work in private practice AND you are ready to grow your impact and income through the work you believe in, it may be time to consider private mentorship.
You have been in practice long enough to know the basics and may even have some advanced training in sensory. I'm here to tell you there is no one right way to do this thing we call sensory but there are effective (research informed) ways and we are not meant to do it alone! Mentorship affords you the opportunity to learn using YOUR clients, on YOUR time, over time in YOUR setting. Together we'll design a process that fits and that gives you ongoing support, accountability and the outcomes YOU want to see (for yourself and your clients). Improving clinical practice is a process but you can't expect change unless you make a change.
It is 100% possible to make sensory practice easier!!!
Have success with every client you see and grow your income this year!

I have been an occupational therapist for 26 years, certified in SI for 16, and started and grew my own group private practice for the last 11 years, expanding it twice. I have worked in many settings and in many roles, combining sensory and mental health interventions. I have been a direct service OT, consultant, administrator, program developer, international speaker and writer, and I'm a sensory mom. I started my career (one year) in geriatrics, moved into work with adults for multiple years and have gradually progressed to working with younger and younger clients. I never expected to start and run a clinic just like I never expected to work in pediatrics.
I've learned that "unexpected" can be a wonderful part of life. However, unexpected circumstances can also bring stress and navigating them alone can make life WAAY more challenging than it needs to be. I have learned through my successes and my mistakes but mostly figured things out along the way. While I know you can do the same, I want to make sensory practice easier you so YOU don't have to struggle like I did AND because, I believe it's our time for OT's to shine! But if we are going to shine, it's time to refine.
We as a profession can do better for people with sensory challenges. Let's refine the way we think AND learn AND practice based on best evidence, connection with others and our best selves!
I can't wait to work with you. It takes a village and I'd love to be part of yours!
I'd be happy to talk further.
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK CLOSELY WITH ME AND TO GET MY BRAIN THINKING WITH YOU FOR YOUR CLIENTS and/or YOUR THERAPY STAFF.
